{"id":9,"date":"2008-05-01T21:04:59","date_gmt":"2008-05-02T01:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.peterandrewryan.com\/baking\/?p=9"},"modified":"2008-08-27T13:55:48","modified_gmt":"2008-08-27T17:55:48","slug":"bananananana-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.peterandrewryan.com\/baking\/2008\/05\/bananananana-bread\/","title":{"rendered":"bananananana bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"banana 1 by petearyan, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/32078869@N00\/2456053262\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2070\/2456053262_be764d163a_o.jpg\" alt=\"banana 1\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>i think we all have those recipes that are so ingrained in our routines that we&#8217;ll never have to look them up again &#8211; we can recite them off the top of our heads to friends, family members and co-workers. they&#8217;re just simple, familiar foods that will always satisfy and make you feel good inside.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"banana 2 by petearyan, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/32078869@N00\/2456286678\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3141\/2456286678_92bd9412fd_o.jpg\" alt=\"banana 2\" width=\"550\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>banana bread has a special place in my heart because it&#8217;s one of the earliest things i learned to bake. and as simple as this quick bread is, the first time i bake from any recipe, i invariably return every other minute to the post-it note instructions i&#8217;ve hastily transposed from a cookbook or some website to make sure i haven&#8217;t screwed up.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"banana 4 by petearyan, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/32078869@N00\/2457536857\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2252\/2457536857_19c19cab80_o.jpg\" alt=\"banana 4\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>but when i started making banana bread every few weeks, and then every week, and then every few days, the motions became automatic. soon i could whip up a batch and have it in the oven in 5 or 6 minutes. i suddenly became aware that i was getting <em>better<\/em> at it, which made me more confident to try new recipes.<\/p>\n<p>and for as many times as i make banana bread, i haven&#8217;t ever deviated from this recipe (or sought out alternatives). i don&#8217;t think i could find anything better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"banana 3 by petearyan, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/32078869@N00\/2456286708\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2040\/2456286708_2873a235b1_o.jpg\" alt=\"banana 3\" hspace=\"5\" width=\"226\" height=\"306\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>banana bread<\/strong><br \/>\n priscilla first made this for me in college (thanks!), but i&#8217;m not sure where she found the recipe&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>8 Tbsp butter<br \/>\n 1 cup sugar<br \/>\n 2 eggs<br \/>\n 3 bananas (the riper the better)<br \/>\n 1 Tbsp milk<br \/>\n 1 tsp cinnamon<br \/>\n 2 cups flour<br \/>\n 1 tsp baking soda<br \/>\n 1 tsp baking powder<br \/>\n 1 tsp salt<br \/>\n 4-6 oz chocolate chips (optional)<br \/>\n 4-6 oz chopped walnuts (optional)<\/p>\n<p>1. soften the butter and mix in the sugar. add in the eggs and mix completely.<\/p>\n<p>2. mash up the bananas in the milk and add the cinnamon. it&#8217;s ok if it&#8217;s lumpy. add the banana mixture into the butter mixture.<\/p>\n<p>3. combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and add to the wet ingredients. don&#8217;t overmix; just break up any large clumps of flour and get everything moist. mix in the chocolate chips or walnuts.<\/p>\n<p>4. carefully pour into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350 F for one hour (i go an extra 5 minutes if i add chocolate chips). remove from oven and let rest in the loaf pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>i think we all have those recipes that are so ingrained in our routines that we&#8217;ll never have to look them up again &#8211; we can recite them off the top of our heads to friends, family members and co-workers. they&#8217;re just simple, familiar foods that will always satisfy and make you feel good inside.
